West Ham United are looking for an experienced and passionate Grounds Person to join our Grounds & Estates team.
Based at our Training Centres, with responsibility for supporting West Ham United Women matches and maintenance at Dagenham & Redbridge, you will play a key role in preparing and maintaining playing surfaces to the highest professional standards.
HELP PREPARE THE STAGE FOR ELITE FOOTBALL
At West Ham United, the work starts long before kick-off.
As a Senior Grounds Person, you'll help create the surfaces on which our players train, prepare, recover and perform.
This is an opportunity to bring your experience, knowledge and pride in turf management into a professional football environment and become an important part of the team behind the team.
- Prepare and maintain natural and artificial playing surfaces.
Carry out mowing, aeration, marking, irrigation, fertilising, top dressing and repair works.
️ Prepare pitches and training areas for daily training, matches and recovery sessions.
Monitor grass health, pitch performance and disease.
Operate a range of professional grounds maintenance machinery and equipment.
Support and supervise junior members of the Grounds team.
Allocate daily tasks and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- ️ Act as deputy to the Head Grounds Person when required.
Maintain equipment and report defects or maintenance requirements.
Follow safe systems of work, including PPE and safe chemical-handling procedures.
Support pitch renovation programmes and seasonal works.
️ Assist with matchday and event preparations.
Maintain surrounding landscaped and non-playing areas to an excellent standard.
We're looking for someone who takes genuine pride in producing outstanding playing surfaces.
You should have:
✔️ Experience in professional, sports or high-quality grounds maintenance.
✔️ Strong knowledge of natural and artificial turf management.
✔️ Experience with mowing, aeration, irrigation, fertilisation and pitch renovation.
✔️ Experience operating grounds maintenance machinery.
✔️ The ability to identify and respond to turf and pitch performance issues.
✔️ Experience supporting or supervising other members of a team.
✔️ A strong commitment to health, safety and professional standards.
✔️ Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach.
✔️ The ability to work effectively in a professional football environment.
