MIS (Management Information System) Apprentice – Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship - Fixed Term Contract
What do you want from work?
Do you want to start your career by simply completing tasks that someone else gives you?
Or would you rather learn how a business actually works, develop valuable professional skills and become someone who plays an important part in keeping an organisation running effectively?
As an MIS Apprentice at Greenlight, you will get to see what happens behind the scenes of an apprenticeship provider.
Every learner we enrol, every programme we deliver and every apprenticeship we support relies on accurate information. From enrolment and attendance through to compliance, timetabling and learner records, the work of the MIS team helps make sure everything happens when it should.
You will learn how to manage information, use business systems, spot errors, solve problems and keep things moving. As your knowledge and confidence develop, so will your responsibility.
This isn't about expecting you to know everything on day one.
It's about giving you the opportunity to learn, develop and build a professional career.
The Role
We are looking for an organised, reliable and curious person to join our MIS team and take on a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.
You will work alongside experienced members of the MIS team, learning how accurate data and effective administration support the successful delivery of apprenticeships.
You will gain practical experience across a wide range of areas including:
- Learner enrolment and induction administration
- Data entry and management
- Management Information Systems
- Timetabling and attendance
- Apprenticeship administration
- Compliance and document management
- Functional Skills administration
- EPA administration
- CITB and NPORS administration
- Spreadsheets and basic reporting
- General business administration
You will also work with teams across the organisation, including Curriculum, Commercial and Safeguarding. This means you will develop an understanding of how different parts of a business work together, rather than being confined to one type of administration.
As you become more competent, you will be trusted with increasing responsibility and will be expected to complete tasks independently, identify problems and know when something needs to be raised with a colleague.
You will learn to:
- Accurately maintain learner and business information
- Use PICS and other internal business systems
- Maintain spreadsheets and administrative trackers
- Identify missing or inaccurate information
- Support learner enrolment and induction
- Assist with timetabling and attendance administration
- Maintain accurate documentation and records
- Support apprenticeship compliance processes
- Communicate professionally with colleagues and stakeholders
- Handle confidential information appropriately
- Organise your workload and meet deadlines
- Solve problems and use your initiative
- Understand how data contributes to funding, compliance and business performance
You don't need to already understand PICS, ESFA funding rules, ILR processes or apprenticeship compliance.
That's what the apprenticeship is for.
What we do need is someone who is willing to learn, pays attention to detail and takes pride in getting things right.
This is more than an apprenticeship
At Greenlight, our MIS team plays an important part in our wider mission.
We provide training that gives people the skills they need to build careers and thrive in the workplace. Behind every one of those apprentices is a significant amount of administration, information and coordination.
If the data is wrong, things can go wrong.
If information is missing, problems can be missed.
If records aren't maintained properly, learners and employers can be affected.
Your work will therefore have a purpose beyond simply completing administration.
You will help create the infrastructure that allows apprenticeships to work.
You'll learn how a professional organisation operates, develop transferable business skills and build knowledge that can lead naturally into a career within MIS, data, compliance or wider business administration.
For the right person, this role can be the beginning of a long-term career with Greenlight.
What are we looking for?
You don't need years of office experience.
You don't need to know the apprenticeship sector.
You don't need to be an expert in Excel or databases.
We are looking for someone who has the right attitude and potential to develop.
You will be someone who:
- Is organised and pays close attention to detail
- Likes getting things right
- Is comfortable working with information and data
- Can follow processes but is also willing to ask questions
- Is reliable and takes responsibility for their work
- Can manage deadlines and competing priorities
- Has good written and verbal communication skills
- Is confident using computers and willing to learn new systems
- Can spot when something doesn't look right
- Is comfortable working independently once trained
- Works well as part of a team
- Understands the importance of confidentiality
- Wants to develop professionally and build a career
Previous administration, customer service, education or office experience would be useful, but it isn't essential.
What matters most is your willingness to learn and your approach to work.
Your Apprenticeship
You will work towards a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship alongside your role.
You'll receive structured learning, on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced members of the Greenlight team.
The apprenticeship will develop your skills in:
- Business administration
- Data management and analysis
- IT and Microsoft Office
- Business systems and databases
- Communication and customer service
- Document and records management
- Compliance and confidentiality
- Planning and organisation
- Problem solving
- Continuous improvement
As your skills develop, we will increase your responsibilities and give you more opportunities to work independently.
There is a clear progression route from this role into more senior MIS positions, including MIS Coordinator, for someone who demonstrates the ability, commitment and ambition to progress.
