Accounts Assistant
Location: EH52 5NT | Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm | Working Pattern: Office-based
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive, and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our Finance Team.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business, managing the purchase ledger and ensuring all transactional activity and financial records are accurate and up to date.
This is a varied role offering exposure to a broad range of accounting activities, including purchase and sales ledger, supplier payments, bank reconciliations, credit control, payroll, expenses, and month-end processes. It is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting experience within a supportive and professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the purchase ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and up to date.
- Process supplier invoices for approval and complete supplier statement reconciliations.
- Manage the weekly supplier payment run and resolve supplier queries promptly.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers.
- Assist with reporting and analysis of company expenditure.
- Complete daily bank reconciliations.
- Process and reconcile company credit card transactions and employee expense claims.
- Assist with credit control and provide an overview of sales ledger processes.
- Provide assistance with the monthly payroll process.
- Support month-end activities and the preparation of financial reports and statements.
- Maintain accurate and organised financial records and documentation.
- Undertake other reasonable finance and administrative duties as required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, dependable, and takes pride in producing accurate work. You should be comfortable working with financial information, able to manage multiple priorities, and capable of working both independently and as part of a small team.
Essential:
- Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant or Finance role.
- Strong knowledge and experience of accounting systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, trustworthy, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Experience using Xero.
- Previous payroll experience.
- Knowledge or experience of transport operations.
- Previous experience within a financial or accounting environment.
