General Manager – The Mad House Newcastle
£38,000–£42,000 + Tronc + Performance Bonus

The Mad House is looking for an experienced, energetic and ambitious General Manager to lead our team across our two Newcastle city centre venues.
For us, this role is first and foremost about people and leadership.
We're looking for someone who is visible on the floor, sets high standards, develops the people around them and creates a team that takes pride in what they do.
This isn't an office-based management role. You'll be particularly present during our key weekend and evening trading periods, leading from the front and making sure our venues deliver a consistently great experience.
We're an independent business with ambitious plans for the future, and for the right person there is genuine opportunity to progress into multi-site and wider operational leadership.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading, motivating and developing our managers, supervisors and wider team
- Creating a positive, professional and accountable team culture
- Coaching supervisors and developing future leaders
- Leading the floor during key trading periods
- Maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness and presentation
- Managing performance and addressing issues when required
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and training
- Improving systems and operational standards across both venues
- Monitoring labour, productivity, stock, sales and customer experience
- Working closely with the directors to identify opportunities to improve and grow the business
We don't expect our GM to personally do everything. We want someone who can build a strong team, delegate effectively and create ownership.
Who We're Looking For
You'll ideally be:
- An experienced hospitality manager with strong people-leadership skills
- Confident, approachable and comfortable taking control
- Someone who genuinely enjoys coaching and developing people
- Calm and decisive during busy service
- Comfortable holding people accountable while creating a positive working environment
- Commercially aware and interested in improving performance
- Organised, proactive and good at following things through
- Ambitious and looking for an opportunity to grow
Previous GM experience would be beneficial, but we'd also love to hear from an exceptional Deputy GM, Assistant GM or experienced hospitality manager ready for their next step.
