Job title: Freelance Classroom Teacher
Responsible to: Project Coordinator
Type of Contract: Freelance Contract
Hours: 4 hours per week (Saturday only)
Salary: £14.00 per hour
Working relations:
Internal- project coordinator, other staff and volunteers
External- Hamara management committee and operations manager
Job Summary/Main purpose of the job:
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding professional to teach a KS1 curriculum or KS2 English, Maths or Science curriculum at our out of school provision so that it continues to provide support in core area of underachievement in the BME community where our supplementary school is situated.
To work professionally within a team of staff and volunteers in order to secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students.
The successful candidate will have excellent inter-personal skills and a relentless focus on strategies to sustain the highest quality of teaching and learning.
Applicants should be practitioners who have some classroom experience and who have already demonstrated effective team working characteristics. The successful candidate will work as part of and be supported by an experienced team of dedicated professionals, each committed to working together to benefit students and their families.
Responsibilities/Main Duties:
- Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression for all students through clearly written and regularly reviewed schemes of work.
- To ensure the teaching of your curriculum area will engage the pupils and provide an interactive approach to learning.
- Monitor achievements in the classroom through regular assessment on pupil progress.
- To develop and improve schemes of work and lesson plans for the teaching of your subject area that will engage the pupils.
- Plan the academic year of teaching to incorporate staff meetings, pupil registration, pupil assessments, holidays, play schemes, outings, parents evenings and reward days.
- Ensure that all students are valued equally, and be accountable for the progress in your curriculum area for the entire ability range.
- Conform to and implement practices for assessing recording and reporting on student achievement as outlined by management.
- Keep records and provide reports on student achievement.
- Establish effective communication with parents.
- Establish effective relationships with parents to provide feedback and report on pupil attainment and progress.
- Keep abreast of new curriculum thinking, developments in teaching and learning practice, and examination syllabuses.
- Be aware of developments at KS1 & 2.
- Attend required training eg. Safeguarding (mandatory) and professional development training to enhance skills.
- Implement the schools existing behaviour management strategies and support other colleagues in their management of student behaviour.
- Take on responsibilities from delegated tasks e.g lunch time supervision, recognising and utilising the need to work collaboratively within the school.
- Sustain motivation and commitment; promote enthusiasm, creativity and a collective pride in the success of the school.
- Contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of school equipment.
- Advise coordinator of resources needed for the school curriculum area you teach.
- Ensure the effective and efficient use and organisation of learning resources.
- Use existing accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for the teaching and learning of your subject area.
- Read the staff handbook and make yourself familiar with school policies regarding safeguarding children.
- Implement policies and practices that reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement.

- The working week will include some irregular and unsociable hours in order to meet the needs of the role.
