VEHICLE MECHANIC LEVEL 3
Southwest London | £19.00 - £20.00 per hour| PAYE only | 40 hours, two shift patterns
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical and electronic faults on prestige vehicles
- Performing advanced diagnostic procedures using manufacturer specific equipment
- Carrying out major repairs and component replacements
- Conducting full vehicle inspections and identifying necessary repairs
- Calibrating and programming vehicle systems after repair
- Ensuring all work meets manufacturer standards and specifications
- Working to a fixed shift within a split shift ramp rotation
Shift patterns:
- Early: 05:30 to 13:30
- Late: 13:30 to 22:00
- Monday to Friday, 40 contracted hours after breaks. No weekend work.
- Candidate must commit to one pattern. Late shift is the priority requirement.
What we are looking for:
- Level 3 qualified vehicle technician or equivalent proven experience
- Main dealer or independent workshop background on modern vehicles
- Strong diagnostic ability on mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
- Confident using diagnostic software and reading wiring diagrams and technical data
- Willing to work the late shift, or genuinely flexible between both
- Full valid UK driving licence
Relevant experience:
- Minimum 3 years as a vehicle technician, with at least 1 to 2 years working at Level 3
- Prestige or premium manufacturer main dealer experience strongly preferred
- Experience in a high volume aftersales environment
- Track record of diagnosing across a range of models rather than one narrow specialism
- Candidates open to relocating within the UK are in scope
Key skills:
- Advanced diagnostic and repair skills across mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
- Proficiency with computerised diagnostic equipment and manufacturer software platforms
- Ability to work unsupervised on a late shift with minimal management presence
- Accurate job recording and adherence to repair methods
- Reliability and attendance. This is the deciding factor on a two shift ramp rotation.
Qualifications:
Formal qualifications preferred but proven experience is accepted:
- Level 3 NVQ in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent
- Level 3 IMI certification
- Manufacturer specific certification. Preferred, not essential. Employer funds academy training once permanent.
- Level 4 Master Technician. Top of range rate, permanent offer possible from day one.
- Full valid UK driving licence, essential
- MOT tester qualification, desirable
Rates:
- Level 3 non manufacturer trained: £19.00 to £20.00 per
- Level 4 Master Technician: up to £22.00 per hour PAYE
- Permanent basic in region of £39,500 to £54,000 depending on level
- Uncapped performance bonus once permanent, target around £6,000
