Run the bar at Bournemouth's most unique venue!
Tucked beneath Bournemouth's first street food market, Helch Market's speakeasy basement bar is one of the town's best-kept secrets an intimate, characterful venue known for fair priced drinks, expertly mixed cocktails, live music, and our ever-faithful Thursday jazz nights.
We're under new management and on a mission to take Helch to the next level. That means a refreshed look, a consistent event line-up, and a bar that runs like clockwork. We're an events-led venue at heart birthday parties, listening parties, live music, and private hires mostly open evenings, always with atmosphere.
We're now looking for a Bar Manager to take ownership of the bar and help shape what comes next. This isn't a role where you just keep the lights on you'll have real input as we rebuild and grow, working directly with the new management team.
What You'll Do
- Run the day-to-day operations of the bar, keeping service smooth, standards high, and the venue looking its best.
- Manage stock from end to end ordering, deliveries, stock takes, wastage control, and keeping the bar well-stocked without overspending.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating and ordering to keep quality up and costs down.
- Handle customer enquiries for events, private hires, and bookings from first contact through to the night itself.
- Lead and support the bar team recruitment input, training, and building weekly staff rotas.
- Work with management on events: helping plan, staff, and deliver our weekly line-up including jazz nights, music events, and private parties.
- Keep on top of licensing, health & safety, and cellar/bar hygiene standards.
- Bring ideas to the table drinks menu, decor, events, promotions as we reshape the venue.
What We're Looking For
- Experience behind a busy bar, ideally with supervisory or management experience.
- Confident with stock management, ordering, and working with suppliers.
- Comfortable leading a small team and putting together staff rotas.
- Great with customers friendly, organised, and reliable when handling bookings and events.
- Cocktail knowledge and experience in an events-led or late-night venue is a big plus.
- Someone who's excited by the chance to help rebuild and grow a venue, not just maintain one.
