You will be working in the Infrastructure OU based in St Neots in where we are responsible for working with National Highways on a £679 million transformation of the A428, unlocking faster, smoother journeys between Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. This project will save precious commuting time, cut carbon emissions and open up long‑term opportunities for local people and businesses.
We are currently looking for a Assistant Environment Sustainability Manager who will will lead day to day activities ensuring compliance with project environmental commitments, coordinating environmental inspections, supporting ecological mitigation, and helping implement best‑practice environmental management across the infrastructure site.
As the Assistant Environment Sustainability Manager, you will:
- Assessing and checking survey results and updating information systems and management plans with new information and communicating change to relevant disciplines.
- Supporting the environmental manager in liaison with the statutory environmental bodies / consultees and their visits to site.
- Reporting, investigating and closing-out incidents in compliance with the Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Develop, maintain, implement and coordinate the review of all Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation at project/contract level..
- Supporting delivery of environmental components of works (vegetation clearance, archaeological and ecological surveys).
We are looking for:
- Relevant environmental qualification such as a degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Ecology, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Experience working in construction or infrastructure environments, ideally on large, complex, multi‑disciplinary civil engineering projects.
- Understanding of UK environmental legislation, including areas such as ecology, pollution prevention, waste, water quality, and environmental permitting.
- Experience supporting environmental compliance on site, including inspections, audits, reporting, and raising improvement actions
- Full UK driving licence, as the role involves movement across a long linear construction route
- Ability to interpret environmental plans, method statements, and risk assessments, supporting site teams in applying best practice
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling engagement with engineers, subcontractors, designers, and stakeholders.
