Salary starting from £18.00 per hour depending on experience
Job Purpose
To carry out groundworks and associated construction activities safely and to a high standard, supporting building projects from initial site preparation through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out all aspects of groundworks including excavation, trenching, and backfilling
- Installing drainage systems, foundations, footings, and ducting
- Laying concrete slabs, kerbs, and paving
- Preparing sites for construction works, including setting levels and profiles
- Operating and assisting with plant and machinery where authorised
- Reading and working from drawings, levels, and site plans
- Working alongside other trades and site staff to meet project deadlines
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and tidy condition
- Identifying and reporting site issues, defects, or hazards
Health & Safety
- Comply with all health & safety legislation, site rules, and company policies
- Use PPE correctly at all times
- Follow safe systems of work and risk assessments
- Report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience as a General Builder/Groundworker
- Good knowledge of drainage, foundations, and groundwork methods
- Ability to work from drawings and instructions
- Strong understanding of health and safety on construction sites
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all conditions
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Groundworks or Construction
- Valid CSCS card
- CPCS or NPORS plant tickets (e.g. dumper, roller, excavator)
- Driving licence
