Project Engineer

State-of-the-art modular manufacturing facility located beside the A1, between Retford and Newark. We design and build high-quality modular apartments, bathrooms, and utility cupboards for construction projects across the UK. Part of the JRL Group — 14+ divisions, £900m+ turnover.
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 8:30am – 5:00pm. Friday: 8:30am – 3:45pm (Early finish)
About the Role
We are looking for a capable and organised Project Engineer to support the delivery of our modular building units — including apartments, bathroom pods, and utility cupboards. You will bridge the gap between design, our factory production teams, and site installation — ensuring technical accuracy, smooth coordination, and timely progress from initial design through to manufacture and handover. You will work closely with engineering, production, and project management teams to resolve technical issues, track progress, and ensure every unit is built to specification, quality standards, and programme.
Key Responsibilities

Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and design data for modular apartments, bathroom pods, and utility cupboards — ensuring designs are practical to manufacture and meet all requirements

Coordinate technical information between design, factory production, and installation teams — resolving queries, clarifying details, and preventing delays

Track project progress against build schedules, identifying technical risks, bottlenecks, or delays early and implementing practical solutions

Support production planning, material coordination, and workflow scheduling to keep assembly on track

Use CAD/BIM software to review drawings, check dimensions, and update design information as required

Maintain accurate project records, technical documentation, and progress reports

Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with quality standards

Assist with factory inspections, quality checks, and technical reviews during assembly

Identify opportunities to improve designs, reduce waste, and streamline our modular manufacturing processes
Requirements & Qualifications

Degree in Engineering — Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or a related engineering field

2–5 years working as a Project Engineer, Site Engineer, or in a similar technical coordination role — ideally within manufacturing, construction, offsite, or modular build.
Key Skills & Competencies

Software Proficiency — Hands-on experience with CAD/BIM software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks. Confident using Microsoft Excel and project management tools

Communication — Clear verbal and written skills. Able to explain technical details simply to production teams, installers, and non-technical stakeholders

Problem Solving — Proactive approach. Able to spot issues, investigate root causes, and implement practical engineering solutions quickly

Organisation — Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities at once, keeping to tight deadlines without losing quality or attention to detail

Technical Awareness — Able to read and interpret assembly drawings, layouts, and specifications accurately. Understanding of building services, fixtures, and modular components is advantageous

Teamwork — Works well across design, production, and installation teams to keep projects moving forward
