About McPherson
McPherson Ltd is an established multi-site logistics operation based in Moray, running a fleet with around 350 drivers across Scotland. We work with distilleries, producers and processors across the region, moving everything from bulk items and liquids to co-products, and we're investing in the systems and people that keep the operation running at its best.
The role
We're expanding our planning team and have two positions available.
As a Transport Planner you'll build and manage the daily plan, matching work to vehicles and drivers, keeping customers informed, and reacting when the day changes. It's a fast-moving role in a busy traffic office, where no two days are the same and the decisions you make matter.
You'll take ownership of a desk covering a specific area of our operation, working alongside a small, experienced planning team.
What you'll do
- Plan daily collections and deliveries across your desk
- Allocate work to vehicles and drivers, making best use of both
- Schedule to meet customer deadlines and service commitments
- Brief drivers on their day and handle changes as they come in
- Liaise with customers on collection and delivery times
- Monitor vehicle availability and utilisation
- Re-plan quickly when things change, including breakdowns, delays and late bookings
- Record work accurately in our transport management system, so the information the business and our customers rely on is correct
What you'll need
Essential
- Confident with computers and comfortable learning new systems
- Well organised, with genuine attention to detail
- Able to hold several priorities at once without losing track
- Clear communicator, as you'll be speaking to drivers and customers
- Calm under pressure and comfortable making decisions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft productivity tools especially Excel
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Previous experience in transport planning, logistics or a traffic office
- Experience with a transport management system (we use Qargo)
- Understanding of drivers' hours, tachograph rules and vehicle types
- Knowledge of Scottish geography and road networks
We'll consider strong candidates from outside logistics. If you've planned, scheduled or coordinated work in another fast-paced environment and you're organised and quick-thinking, we're interested.
Who this suits
Someone who likes a busy day, enjoys solving a puzzle with moving parts, and takes satisfaction in a plan that works. You'll be joining an established team with the support to learn our operation properly.
