Job Description:
The primary duties of this position involve preparing and coating various surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete. This includes tasks like scraping, sanding, cleaning, and masking surfaces; mixing and applying coatings like primers, paints, and varnishes; and ensuring the final finish meets specified requirements. The role also requires adherence to safety protocols, maintaining a clean workspace, and properly utilizing and maintaining tools.
Qualifications and Key skills
A copy of your valid UK category B driving license
One year of specialized experience as per the key skills listed below:
- Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques
- Knowledge of paints and thinning compounds.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations to include regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management
- Ability to read and follow instructions, standard specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment such as scrapers, wire brushes, putty knives, sandpaper, paintbrushes, rollers, compressors, and spray guns
- Ability to learn mixing, matching, and toning techniques
Conditions of employment
- You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
- You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
- Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
- You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
- Shift work may be required, and Emergency overtime may be required, but is not guaranteed.
- May be required to operate and train on sign making machines.
- May be required to meet the requirements for "Production Acceptance Certification" (PAC) Program.
- Pre-Appointment physical/health screening is required. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. The work may be at extreme heights (such as water towers or tall buildings). This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds and over.
- Exposure to toxic paints, chemicals, or other hazards may require occupational health examinations
- You must successfully obtain and maintain any necessary occupational related training/certificates in accordance with US and UK industry standards, and complete all management directed training
