Private Housekeeper / Household Assistant
Location: Brough
Hours: Approx. 15 hours per week – 3 days per week, around 5 hours per day
Salary: £18.50 - £20 per hour
Employment: Permanent, part-time
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Private Housekeeper / Household Assistant to support a busy young professional family with the day to day running of their home.
This is more than a cleaning position. We are looking for someone who has previous experience working within and managing a private household and understands what it takes to keep a busy family home running smoothly.
Due to the size of the property, the successful candidate will ideally have experience looking after larger private homes and will be confident prioritising their workload across the three working days.
The right person will be proactive, organised and able to work with a high degree of independence. Rather than waiting to be given a list of tasks, you'll take ownership of the household during your working hours, anticipate what needs doing and make sure the everyday details are taken care of.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the general day to day upkeep and organisation of the home
- Cleaning and maintaining the property to a consistently high standard
- Laundry, ironing, folding and putting clothing away
- Changing beds and managing household linen and towels
- Grocery shopping and ensuring the home is appropriately stocked
- Keeping track of household essentials and replenishing them as required
- Keeping the fridge, cupboards, wardrobes and storage areas clean and organised
- Receiving, unpacking and putting away household deliveries
- Managing other household collections where required
- Running local errands on behalf of the family
- Managing bins and recycling
- Keeping on top of routine household tasks without needing to be prompted
- Identifying maintenance or repair requirements and bringing these to the family's attention
- Coordinating access for tradespeople, contractors and household appointments where required
- Periodic deep cleaning and seasonal household organisation
- Preparing the home ahead of guests or family occasions
- Generally ensuring the household remains organised, well stocked and running efficiently
- Light gardening duties where required
The role does not require a professional chef, but the successful candidate should be a confident and capable home cook who is comfortable preparing good quality everyday family meals.
- Preparing meals or ingredients in advance to make busy evenings easier
- Planning straightforward family meals where required
- Keeping track of food in the home and incorporating this into the weekly grocery shop
- Ensuring the fridge, freezer and cupboards are appropriately stocked
- Monitoring use-by dates and minimising unnecessary food waste
- Preparing lunches, snacks or other food for the family where required
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organised following food preparation
- Being mindful of any dietary requirements, preferences or allergies within the household
About You
Previous professional experience working within a private household is essential for this position.

- Experienced in private housekeeping or household management
- Highly trustworthy and discreet
- Proactive and confident using your own initiative
- Exceptionally organised with strong attention to detail
- Reliable and punctual
- Friendly and comfortable working within a family environment

Hours
Approximately 15 hours per week, worked across three days per week at around five hours per day.
There may be some flexibility around the exact days and working pattern for the right candidate, and we would equally look for a level of flexibility to accommodate the families busy schedule too.
The Right Person
