Experienced Café Chef – Fresh Food, Salads & Protein Bowls

Little Wonder Street is a new premium children’s role-play, soft-play and family café venue opening in Romford.
We are looking for an experienced Café Chef to take responsibility for preparing our fresh food menu to a consistently high standard.
This is a hands-on role and would suit someone with experience in a busy café, deli, healthy food concept, poke bar, sushi counter or fresh grab-and-go operation.
The Role
You will be responsible for preparing and presenting:
- Fresh sandwiches and wraps
- Salads
- Protein and poke-style bowls
- Experience with sushi rice is desirable
- Smoked salmon
- Eggs and fresh toppings
- Chilled breakfast pots
- Children’s food
- Paninis and light café food
- Pastries baked from frozen
You will also help maintain excellent kitchen organisation and food-safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily fresh-food preparation
- Preparing sushi-style rice consistently
- Preparing and presenting protein bowls
- Safe handling and portioning of smoked salmon and chilled ready-to-eat foods
- Sandwich, wrap and salad preparation
- Preparing eggs, toppings and chilled ingredients
- Baking pastries from frozen
- Stock rotation and date labelling
- Monitoring fridge and food temperatures
- Portion and waste control
- Allergen awareness
- Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen
- Supporting stock ordering and prep planning
- Training kitchen assistants where required
Experience Required
Previous professional food-preparation experience is essential.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked in:
- Healthy cafés
- Poke or protein-bowl concepts
- Sushi or Japanese food counters
- Delis
- Fresh-food cafés
- High-quality grab-and-go food businesses
Experience preparing sushi rice/rice, protein bowls and chilled ready-to-eat fish such as smoked salmon would be highly desirable.
Food Safety
A Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is required or must be completed before starting.
Strong knowledge of food hygiene, allergens, stock rotation and temperature control is important.
