CAD/CAM Engineer
Alifab (Welding & Fabrication) Ltd – Stoke-on-Trent
Full-time | Permanent
Alifab are looking for an experienced CAD/CAM Engineer to join our team in Milton, Stoke-on-Trent.
The two key things we’re looking for are strong SolidWorks skills and a good practical understanding of welding, fabrication and sheet-metal manufacture.
This isn’t purely a drawing-office role. You’ll work closely with our production team, taking customer drawings, STEP files and models through to accurate, production-ready drawings and CNC programs.
Just as importantly, we need someone who understands how things are actually made. You should be able to look at a design, understand how it will be formed, assembled and welded, identify potential manufacturing problems and suggest practical improvements where appropriate.
Experience with Radan would be an advantage but isn’t essential. Training can be provided for someone with the right SolidWorks and fabrication experience.
The role
- Produce 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
- Create sheet-metal parts, assemblies and fabrication drawings
- Take customer drawings, STEP and DXF files through to production-ready manufacture
- Review drawings and models for manufacturability
- Identify potential issues with welding, weld access, folding, assembly and tolerances
- Suggest practical improvements to designs and manufacturing methods where appropriate
- Prepare and maintain accurate drawing revisions and manufacturing information
- Offline program and nest work for our CNC laser and punch using Radan
- Confirm material and component requirements
- Work directly with production to resolve drawing and technical queries
- Provide technical support to the shop floor when required
What we’re looking for

- Understanding of sheet-metal manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

- Ability to work independently and take ownership of your work
Desirable:
- Radan or similar CAD/CAM experience
- CNC laser and/or punch programming experience
- Knowledge of laser cutting, CNC punching and press brake operations
- Previous experience within a sheet-metal or fabrication environment
What we offer
- Competitive salary depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent position
- Monday to Thursday, full days
- Friday 8:00am–12:00pm
- 3-month probationary period
- Varied work across one-off, bespoke and repeat production

- Additional benefits may be available depending on experience and individual requirements
- Opportunity to become an important part of a growing engineering business
