We have an exciting job opportunity for the position of Shared Housing and Floating Support Worker working within the CYC Housing Options and Support Service we are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic person to provide high quality support to all customers living in City Of York Councils Shared Housing Scheme and customers who living in their own tenancies in the community.
Shared Housing is resettlement supported accomodation for single homeless people/rough sleepers, who are moving through the Resettlement process providing accomodation and support to assist people to move on into independent accommodation.
From there the workers offer floating support to those who have successfully moved into their own tenancies supporting them to maintain their own accommodation or to those who are living in their own accomodation but are experiencing housing difficulties.
Working as part of a team the successful applicant will provide a well maintained and responsive accommodation project to customers who are homeless and need supported housing and will oversee the daily operation within these accommodations.
You will provide appropriate formal 1-1 Resettlement support and emotional and practical support to people accessing and living in the service, or to those living in the community in their own tenancies , many of whom are vulnerable and under a high level of stress, therefore the successful applicant will have good interpersonal skills and understand issues people face when homeless, rough sleeping, or at risk or losing their accommodation.
You will be capable of working on your own initiative, and will be able to work in partnership with other services/agencies to support people such as social care, mental health, drug and alcohol services, probation and police etc.
Experience of working with homeless people or supported accomodation and that applicants understand the issues surrounding the client groups is desirable.
You will need to be able to demonstrate that you are sympathetic, and firm and you are able to show resilience and cope in situations which can be stressful as well as rewarding.
The successful applicant will take responsibility while on duty for ensuring the accommodation is kept in good repair in all matters of health and safety. And offer support both formal case work support and informal support to the customers living in or working with the service.
The successful applicant will offer a safe and supportive environment and work as part of a multi-disciplined team, and contribute to the running of the accommodation supporting the supervisor and manager in service delivery, including supporting a case load of customers, reporting repairs, rents, cleaning, health and safety etc.
The successful applicant will be part of a team of support workers; the role requires a flexible and understanding approach in what is sometimes a very challenging but rewarding environment.
The Shared Housing and Floating Support Team are a central part to the city’s strategy to reduce and eradicate rough sleeping.
