Role overview
Tes Institute is Tes’s accredited teacher training and development organisation, focussed on initial teacher training, qualifications and ongoing professional development for teachers.
The successful appointee will support outstanding educational leadership across Tes Institute’s broad portfolio of Teacher Training and Professional Development programmes and work as part of the Institute leadership team delivering quality and improvement at scale. This role will report into the Director of Tes Institute, working as a key member of the Institute management and wider Tes Global team.
As a Director of Programme Delivery, you will be a highly experienced senior education professional able to lead, provide strategic direction and collaborate with educational leaders, teachers and other educators in sector to support the strategic growth, quality and long-term sustainability of Teacher and Teaching Assistant programmes for our schools and learners worldwide.
You will have a deep understanding of the variety of training and development routes into and within teaching, both UK and International. You will lend expertise in the global field of teacher training to ensure, along with Heads of Programme, that our offering aligns with growth opportunities, market need and strategic priorities, and that content and delivery models provide the best experience for our learners.
The role will act as an externally facing expert voice for Tes Institute in teacher training and teacher development education, representing the organisation with credibility across the sector and contributing to thought leadership in response to policy, regulatory and market developments.
Secure understanding of the governance and regulation of programmes by external bodies such as EFSA, DfE, and Ofsted is a key requirement of the role, working alongside the Programme team and the Head of Quality and Compliance to ensure adherence from programmes.
You will have an unrelenting focus on the quality of programme delivery, learning and outcomes within each training programme and the expertise to develop programme leaders. Strong people management is a key facet of this with line management responsibility for Heads of Programme Delivery.
You will have a significant amount of experience in implementing strategies to support learner engagement, persistence and satisfaction. Planning, organisational development and implementation of educational initiatives are also a requirement of the role.
You will advocate Tes’ organisational values, model high expectations in the quality of teacher training, and continue to develop academic delivery across Institute. You will provide a high level of expertise in academic focussed solutions, ensuring strong top-down leadership and accountability, to ensure staff and learners have the right resources to ensure effective learner progress, passion for life-long learning and career development, with the skills to positively influence our community and society.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic and operational delivery of outstanding teacher training and development education of Tes Institute programmes.
- Lead the strategic growth and development of a programme portfolio, identifying opportunities to expand, adapt and strengthen programmes in line with learner needs, sector developments, regulatory requirements and commercial priorities.
- Effectively manage Heads of Programme Delivery in your team, ensuring an unwavering focus on high-quality, compliant delivery and outcomes within each programme.
- Through your Programme leadership team, ensure strong coordination and collaboration across programmes to enable consistency, efficacy and strategic use of skillset.
- Identify needs, source support and build capacity within your team.
- Champion growth in programme leadership and development of your leaders, with an awareness of talent and succession planning.
- Attend and input into all external relationship activity, such as international bodies, Ofsted, MAT/LA and DfE assurance and governance activity, ensuring Institute performance is scrutinised, supported, and held to account.
- Act as an externally facing expert in teacher training and development education, representing Tes Institute with sector bodies, partners, schools and wider stakeholders, and contributing to thought leadership that strengthens Tes Institute’s profile, credibility and influence.
- Work closely and collaborate with wider Tes functions to ensure strong operational and compliant delivery at all stages.
- Provide industry expertise to the Director of Institute and Head of Institute Sales and Marketing in managing relationships and identifying growth opportunities.
- Provide expertise as a trained Level 3 safeguarding lead as part of the safeguarding team.
What will you need to succeed?
Experience
- Substantial education leadership experience with demonstrable strategic and operational experience across teaching, learning, curriculum and delivery. (Required).
- Proven skills in operating at a strategic level as a collaborative and supportive member of a senior team, actively engaging in decision making leading to positive learner progress and business outcomes. (Required).
- Significant experience of successfully delivering and managing teacher training and development programmes. (Required).
- Prior experience of leadership through external inspection by regulatory bodies such as Ofsted. (Required).
- Prior experience of leadership through external inspection by regulatory bodies across a broad range of teacher training programmes or as a school leader. (Desirable).
- Proven experience of managing and developing teams, inclusive of coaching and influencing staff to deliver innovative ways of working. (Required).
- Proven experience of contributing to or leading strategic programme growth, including identifying opportunities, shaping programme development and aligning delivery with organisational and commercial objectives. (Required).
- Experience of acting as an external representative, sector expert or thought leader in teacher training, teacher development or wider education, with the ability to build credibility and influence with external stakeholders. (Desirable).
- Experience of management of educational programme delivery via a blended method. (Required).
Knowledge
- Deep understanding of ongoing developments in teacher training education and the changing landscape of international teacher training needs. (Required).
- Deep understanding of routes into teaching and professional development beyond initial teacher training. (Required).

Qualifications
- Teaching qualification (QTS) or equivalent. (Required).
