At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are committed to making walking, wheeling and cycling the easiest and most attractive ways to travel, while supporting our ambition to tackle the climate and ecological emergency. To help deliver this ambition, we are seeking an exceptional Principal Transport Planner (Active Travel) to lead the borough's active travel programme and deliver projects that make our streets safer, healthier, more accessible and more sustainable. This is an exciting opportunity to lead one of London's most ambitious active travel programmes and turn strategy into delivery across a wide range of initiatives.
Working at the heart of the Council's Climate & Transport service, you will lead programmes spanning walking, cycling, micromobility, cycle parking, behaviour change and sustainable travel initiatives.
A key priority for this role will be leading the Council's approach to shared and dockless micromobility, including operator management, performance monitoring and the delivery of supporting infrastructure. You will also secure funding, manage complex projects and contracts, and use data and insight to identify priorities, measure impact and drive continuous improvement. You will build strong partnerships with Transport for London, consultants, operators, neighbouring boroughs and community stakeholders. You will provide expert advice to Members and senior officers, represent the Council at public meetings and regional forums, and play a leading role in shaping the future of transport across Hammersmith & Fulham.
You will lead and develop a high-performing Active Travel team, providing strategic direction, professional guidance and support to help deliver excellent outcomes for residents and businesses. We're looking for a strategic, collaborative and highly motivated transport professional with substantial experience of delivering active travel programmes and infrastructure projects.
You should have strong programme, budget and contract management skills, a sound understanding of active travel policy and design standards, and the ability to translate strategy into high-quality, deliverable schemes. You will also need excellent stakeholder and communication skills, together with experience of leading teams, managing performance and driving continuous improvement.
