Zen Educate is seeking a strong, proactive HLTA to lead small-group interventions within our Secondary Division. In this role, you will deliver tailored literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional interventions to secondary-aged students, as well as students working at primary curriculum levels.
You will have the dedicated support of two full-time Teaching Assistants in the provision. However, many of these learners demonstrate challenging behaviour, trauma responses, or low engagement with education.
We need a leader who isn't easily phase-able—someone who understands that setting firm boundaries, staying calm under pressure, and building consistent rapport is the key to real breakthroughs.
Key Responsibilities
- Small Group Leadership: Plan, deliver, and adapt targeted small-group interventions in English, Maths, and life skills (catering to secondary pupils working at both primary and early-secondary levels).
- Team Supervision: Guide and collaborate with the two supporting TAs in the room to ensure effective classroom delivery, targeted 1:1 support, and student safety.
- Behaviour Management: Set high expectations and apply positive behaviour management strategies, utilising de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practices.
- Assessment & Progress Tracking: Monitor student engagement and academic progress, liaising regularly with the SENCO and secondary subject leads to adjust intervention plans.
- Rapport Building: Act as a steady, reliable role model for students who may test boundaries, working patiently over the long term to build trust and trust-based authority.
What We Are Looking For
- HLTA Status or Equivalent Experience: HLTA status, QTS, or extensive, proven experience planning and delivering small group interventions independently.
- Adaptability Across Key Stages: Comfortable delivering primary-level foundational learning content within a secondary school structure.
- Challenging Behaviour Expertise: Strong classroom management skills, emotional resilience, thick skin, and experience supporting students with SEMH, ADHD, or complex behavioral needs.
- Team Leadership Skills: Confident directing and supporting two TAs to ensure seamless classroom dynamics.
- Safeguarding & Compliance: An active Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one) is essential.
