What is the post we are offering
We have an opportunity for a microbiologist to play a key role in our specialist microbiology testing laboratory. The successful candidate will be working in our specialised microbiology laboratory in Leeds in a hands-on role in ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of this laboratory and will one of a small team of microbiology analysts in the testing of wastewater and seawater samples. You will be providing technical assistance to the other staff in the analysis of samples from clients including preparation of materials and media, maintaining accurate laboratory records and sample registration whilst ensuring the laboratory complies with its ISO 17025 requirements. The successful candidate will also record results correctly and transfer the data to the computer system, check the data and make corrections where necessary before results are reported, and operate various analysers and instruments without supervision.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate with great attention to detail and a high level of integrity, reliability and maturity. Candidates should either be qualified to at least Degree Level in Microbiology and should have a minimum of 2 year’s laboratory experience of microbiology testing, or,
have good general microbiological knowledge and should have a minimum of 10 year’s practical laboratory experience of microbiology testing.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience in standard microbiological testing techniques, ideally from water matrices.

This role is based at our specialist microbiology laboratory in Horsforth, Leeds.
Permanent post [37½ hrs / week]
Initially the post has working hours of Monday – Friday and you should be prepared to cover some weekend hours with adequate notice.
Once fully trained working hours will be four days (between Tuesday – Saturday).
Salary £30,000 pa
