Areterra is a small, community-focused charity supporting adults with learning disabilities through meaningful, hands-on activities. From animal interaction and horticulture to creative and practical skills, we provide a calm, supportive environment where our members can grow in confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
We’re now looking for a part-time Animal Care & Site Support Assistant to help maintain our animal areas and wider site environment, supporting both animal welfare and the day-to-day running of Areterra.
About the Role
This is a practical, hands-on role focused on supporting animal care, enclosure maintenance, and the overall upkeep of our site.
You’ll help ensure the environment is clean, organised, safe, and ready for our member sessions, allowing our support staff to focus on delivering meaningful activities and interactions.
This role would suit someone who enjoys practical work, working with animals, and being part of a small supportive team.
Working pattern: Approximately 1 day per week, 9:00am–2:30pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures
- Preparing animal feeds and bedding
- Supporting daily animal care routines
- Rotating enrichment items and maintaining animal areas
- General site tidying and organisation
- Supporting stock organisation and supplies
- Assisting with basic maintenance and upkeep tasks
- Helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
- Working as part of a small, supportive team
About You
We’re looking for someone reliable, practical, and comfortable working in a hands-on environment.
Essential
- Comfortable working around animals
- Practical and proactive approach to work
- Reliable and organised
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to work in a physical, hands-on role
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working with animals
- Animal care or husbandry knowledge
- Experience in a practical or maintenance-based role
- Experience supporting vulnerable adults
- Awareness of hygiene and welfare standards
