The Canterbury Museums & Galleries team at Canterbury City Council are looking for a Museum Audience & Engagement Intern to join them.
This is a full-time 1 Year internship position with Canterbury Museums & Galleries.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to build practical skills and experience within a busy and ambitious museum service. Working closely with the Museums Audience & Engagement Officer, you will gain hands-on experience in audience engagement, programming, marketing and digital communications, helping to connect people with our collections, exhibitions and events. You will support the delivery of visitor-focused projects, create content for digital and social media channels, assist with audience research and evaluation, and contribute to activities that broaden participation and develop new audiences.

About this internship:
This role will support the museum in attracting, understanding and engaging audiences by helping develop inclusive programmes, communications and visitor experiences.
Here’s what you’ll get up to:
- You will provide marketing support particularly relating to the promotion of programming, learning and collections related activities.
- Assist with event promotion and messaging for museum programs and exhibitions as well as support the development and execution of advertising and email campaigns.
- You will research, write, and schedule social media content in the museum’s voice across various platforms.
- You will collaborate with museum staff from different departments to develop educational and promotional materials.
- You will aid in the creation of digital and print marketing collateral, such as flyers, signage, exhibition interpretation, and blog posts.
- You will participate in strategic planning for upcoming exhibitions and related marketing initiatives.
Working pattern:
- Usually Monday to Fridays. The Museum is a 7-day operation and regularly hosts events outside core hours. Flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays and before/after public hours is therefore required.
- This is a full-time fixed term 1 year post
- We offer a generous annual leave entitlement! You’ll receive 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays, PLUS 3 given days which are usually used over the Christmas period.
- The role is based at The Beaney Museum office but options for flexible/ hybrid working are offered.
- Contract type: 1 year fixed-term contract

Your knowledge
- An interest in museums
- An interest art, culture and/or visitor attractions
Your experience
- Experience of using and working across digital platforms and website
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Experience of working to strict deadlines and with competing priorities
Your skills
- Good organisational, logical and methodical thinking and planning skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Willingness to work collaboratively and in partnership with colleagues and other organisations
- Ability to think creatively
