Mechanical Engineer
Meticulous and methodical person with good communication skills, keen team player
whilst capable of utilising own initiative and motivation. Possessing a strong mechanical aptitude having achieved a sound foundation in engineering design disciplines and practices. A comprehensive knowledge of engineering design developed from a genuine enthusiasm for the subject. An enthusiastic fast learner committed to achieving his objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX) with strong drafting, GD&T, and small-part detailing skills
- Demonstrable interest in lightweight structural design topology optimisation, lattice structures, thin-walled and monocoque construction
- Working knowledge of FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, or similar) for stiffness, mass, modal, and thermal analysis on weight-critical assemblies
- Exposure to PCB-level mechanical integration enclosure design, board mounting, connector layout, EMI shielding, and thermal pathing for electronics
- Understanding of materials and processes suited to mass reduction: aluminium and titanium alloys, carbon composites, advanced polymers, and metal/polymer additive manufacturing
- Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals statics, dynamics, vibration, heat transfer, and tolerance stack-ups in tightly packaged assemblies
- Hands-on instinct comfortable prototyping, building, testing, and iterating in a lab or workshop setting
- Clear technical communication across mechanical and electronics teams able to translate between a PCB layout and a mechanical enclosure
- Self-starter mindset, thrives in a fast-moving start-up where ownership is expected from day one
Desirable:
- Exposure to space, defence, or other regulated/high-reliability sectors
- Experience designing mechanical interfaces for microelectronics, sensors, MEMS, or optical payloads
- Familiarity with thermal management for densely packed electronics (heat pipes, conductive straps, TIMs)
- Exposure to space, defence, or other high-reliability sectors with strict mass budgets
- Knowledge of qualification environments — vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, outgassing (ECSS, NASA-STD)
