About the role
Punk Against Poverty is looking for confident, reliable and enthusiastic Volunteer Retail Sales Assistants to join our charity shop team in St Marychurch.
This is a hands-on role, and we’re particularly looking for people who already have some experience of working or volunteering in a retail, customer service or similar environment and can hit the ground running.
You’ll be part of a busy shop team helping us provide a welcoming experience for our customers and donors, while raising vital funds to support people experiencing poverty across our local community.
What you’ll be doing:
Your duties will include:
● Serving and assisting customers on the shop floor
● Using the till and handling transactions once trained
● Welcoming people bringing donations into the shop and accepting donations with care and appreciation
● Sorting, preparing and putting out donated stock
● Keeping rails and displays tidy, attractive and well stocked
● General housekeeping and cleaning
● Helping maintain a clean, organised and welcoming shop
● Supporting the wider team with the day-to-day running of the shop
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for volunteers who:
● Are aged 18 or over due to the nature of our work and safeguarding requirements
● Have some previous work or volunteering experience, ideally in retail or customer service
● Are confident speaking to and assisting members of the public
● Are friendly, approachable and professional
● Are reliable and able to commit to agreed shifts
● Are proactive and happy to get stuck in without needing constant direction
● Understand the importance of treating every customer and donor with respect
● Are comfortable working as part of a team
● Are willing to help with all aspects of shop-floor work, including cleaning and housekeeping
What you’ll get from volunteering with us:
You’ll gain further retail and customer-service experience while becoming part of a friendly team and supporting the work of Punk Against Poverty.
Our shop raises funds that enable us to provide practical help to local people experiencing poverty, including school uniform, clothing, beds, household appliances, laptops and other essential support.
This would particularly suit someone with previous workplace experience who wants to use their existing skills, meet people and make a practical difference in their local community.
Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this volunteer role, and applicants must already live within a reasonable commuting distance of our St Marychurch shop.
