About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Trainee Thermal Coating Technician to join our growing engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within the thermal spray and surface engineering industry. Full training will be provided, with the successful candidate developing practical skills in processes including HVOF (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel), flame spraying and other thermal coating technologies.
You will work alongside experienced technicians and engineers, learning how to prepare, coat, inspect and finish a range of engineering components used across industries including pumps, turbines, compressors, oil & gas, power generation and general engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced technicians with thermal coating operations.
- Learn and develop skills in HVOF and thermal spray coating processes.
- Prepare components prior to coating, including cleaning, masking and grit blasting.
- Assist with the setup and operation of thermal spray equipment.
- Apply coatings to engineering components under supervision.
- Learn how to operate workshop machinery and associated equipment safely.
- Follow job specifications, drawings and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Work as part of a team to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Continually develop technical knowledge and practical skills through training.
Training & Development
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive on-the-job training covering:
- Thermal spray technology.
- HVOF coating processes.
- Flame spray processes.
- Grit blasting and component preparation.
- Coating application techniques.
- Masking techniques.
- Coating thickness measurement.
- Inspection and quality control.
- Engineering drawings and specifications.
- Safe operation of workshop equipment.As your experience develops, you will be given increased responsibility and the opportunity to progress towards becoming a fully qualified Thermal Coating Technician

Desirable, But Not Essential
- Previous experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- An engineering qualification or apprenticeship.
- Experience using workshop machinery or hand tools.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings.
- Experience with grit blasting, grinding or surface preparation.
- Previous experience in thermal spraying, HVOF or surface engineering.
Full training will be provided, so previous thermal coating experience is not essential.

Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 39.0 per week
