Balkerne Gardens Trust is looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Assistant (Monday-Friday 37.5 hours per week) to help maintain safe, comfortable, and welcoming environments across our properties.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with extensive all-round maintenance experience, including basic plumbing and electrical skills. You will play a vital part in ensuring our homes remain in excellent condition for both residents and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and general maintenance across the estate
- Complete a range of tasks including plumbing, electrical work, painting, and carpentry
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and escalate major issues when needed
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with health and safety regulations

About You
We are looking for someone who is practical, proactive, and takes pride in their work. You will ideally have:
- Experience in a maintenance, facilities, or handyman role
- Strong knowledge of general building maintenance
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Additionally, you will be:
- Experienced in facilities work within care, housing, or a similar setting
- Knowledgeable about health and safety compliance
- Organised with a positive, “can-do” attitude
- A team player who enjoys contributing to a safe and welcoming environment
- Equipped with your own toolkit
- Approachable, personable, and with a good sense of humour
