Do you enjoy working with young people, trying new activities and making a real difference in your community?
9th Southampton City Scout Group is looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Youth Leaders to join our friendly team and help deliver fun, safe and inspiring weekly Scout meetings for children and young people aged 4–14.
No previous Scouting experience is needed—just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to get involved. We'll provide training, support and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised skills while having fun yourself.
What will you be doing?
As a Volunteer Youth Leader, you'll help plan and deliver exciting weekly activities that inspire young people to develop confidence, resilience and independence. Activities might include:
- Outdoor adventures and games
- Camping and campfires
- Team challenges
- Creative crafts and STEM activities
- First aid and practical life skills
- Community projects
- Sports and wide games
- Helping young people achieve their badges and awards
You'll work alongside experienced volunteers in a supportive team, helping to create an inclusive environment where every young person can thrive.
Who are we looking for?

- Aged 18 or over
You don't need previous experience working with children or any Scouting background—we'll provide full training, mentoring and ongoing support.

Time Commitment
Typically one evening a week during term time (around 1½–2 hours), with optional weekend activities, camps and events if you'd like to get involved. We understand that life is busy, and we'll work with you to find a level of commitment that suits you.

9th Southampton City Scout Group has been providing adventure and opportunities for young people in Shirley Warren for over 70 years. We support more than 50 young people across our Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs sections, helping them develop Skills for Life through fun, challenge and adventure.
Every volunteer helps us give more young people the confidence, friendships and life skills they'll carry into adulthood.
