Business Development Manager – South
Location: Hybrid – St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum
OTE: Up to £70,000
About the Role
We are seeking a driven and commercially focused Business Development Manager to join an established Fire & Security business and play a key role in its continued growth across the South.
This is a strategic business development role focused on identifying new opportunities, developing long-term customer relationships and securing high-value installation, service and maintenance contracts across the Fire & Security sector.
You will take ownership of your territory and manage the complete sales cycle, from prospecting and networking through to proposal, negotiation, contract award and mobilisation.
The successful candidate will be a confident relationship builder with a strong commercial mindset and a proven track record of winning new business within the Fire & Security industry.
Key ResponsibilitiesMarket Research & Business Development
- Research market trends, customer requirements and competitor activity to identify new business opportunities.
- Identify and target prospective customers across your geographic territory.
- Develop relationships with key decision-makers and build a strong network of contacts.
- Generate new revenue opportunities across Fire & Security disciplines.
- Proactively develop new accounts and revenue streams.
- Build long-term relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
- Maximise networking and industry opportunities to generate leads and increase market presence.
Sales & Account Management
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial prospecting through to contract mobilisation.
- Develop tailored sales proposals based on customer requirements and commercial objectives.
- Present solutions confidently to prospective customers and stakeholders.
- Negotiate contracts to achieve revenue and margin targets.
- Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling within existing accounts.
- Maintain and develop long-term customer relationships.
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through proactive communication and relationship management.
Pipeline Management
- Own and maintain an accurate sales pipeline across your territory.
- Track opportunities from initial lead through to successful completion.
- Forecast sales activity and future revenue accurately.
- Maintain accurate CRM and sales records.
- Provide regular updates on pipeline performance, opportunities and forecasts to senior stakeholders.
Surveys, Design & Quotations
- Attend customer sites to carry out surveys where required.
- Work with technical and operational teams to develop appropriate Fire & Security solutions.
- Prepare accurate and commercially competitive quotations and proposals.
- Ensure proposals meet customer requirements, specifications and timescales.
- Manage open quotations through to negotiation and successful contract award.
- Support the transition and mobilisation of new contracts.
About You
You will be a motivated, self-starting sales professional with a proven track record of winning new business within the Fire & Security industry.
You should have:
- Proven experience in business development or sales within the Fire & Security sector.
- A strong track record of selling installation projects and ongoing service/maintenance contracts.
- Experience managing the full sales cycle from lead generation through to contract award.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Excellent networking and relationship-building abilities.
- Experience developing new accounts and generating recurring revenue.
- Strong account management skills, including upselling and cross-selling.
- The ability to confidently engage with both public and private sector customers.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- A proactive, target-driven and accountable approach.
- The confidence to work independently while collaborating with operational and technical teams.
- A full UK driving licence.
