About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to join our Performing Arts Physiotherapy Team at Advance Physiotherapy at the Performers College Birmingham Campus.
The successful candidate will provide expert injury assessment and management to support the health, education and performance of a diverse student and staff population. This includes musical theatre, dance, acting and music. The role involves working collaboratively with students, artistic staff, and other health professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed physiotherapy care. There are additional opportunities to contribute to injury prevention initiatives, research and teaching as required.
The role would suit a Physiotherapist currently working at Band 6 or Band 7 level within an MSK setting, or a clinician with equivalent private practice experience, who is interested in applying their expertise within a pre-professional performing arts environment.
The candidate would report to and operate under the guidance of the Clinical Director / Clinical Lead with administrative support provided by the clinic in regard to scheduling, bookings and payments.
Key Responsibilities
· To provide specialist musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for pre-professional Performing Arts students and staff.
· To apply strong clinical reasoning and skills to manage complex and recurrent dance-related presentations
· To support injury prevention, load management, and safe return-to-dance pathways.
· Contribute to screening, risk reduction, and performance support strategies as needed.
· Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with HCPC, CSP, and GDPR requirements.
· Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), recognising the roles of other clinical and wellbeing professionals.
· Communicate effectively with dance faculty and support staff, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
· Write reports and any necessary referrals for students who require modifications to training or assessment deferrals due to injury.
· Deliver or contribute to dance health education sessions for students and staff as needed.
· To always demonstrate professionalism and integrity as a representative of Advance Physiotherapy and the Pre-Professional Performing Arts Institution.
Essential Criteria
· BSc or MSc Physiotherapy
· HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist
· Chartered Member of the CSP
· Experience commensurate with a Band 6 or Band 7 MSK role, or equivalent experience in private practice.
· Enhanced certificate with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
· Demonstrable excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
· Strong grounding in core MSK physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills.
· An interest and understanding of Performing Arts / Dance specific injuries and rehabilitation.
· An ability to develop and maintain rapport with the students, faculty and wider multidisciplinary team.
· Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and professionally within a freelance role.
· Able to demonstrate eligibility and right to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
· Experience or additional training in dance medicine or performing arts physiotherapy
· Experience working with pre-professional, professional dancers, or other athletic populations e.g football/gymnastics.
· An appreciation of the varied dance genres required within a Performing Arts degree (e.g. contemporary, ballet, commercial, jazz, musical theatre).
· An understanding of the pre-professional training structure and professional Performing Arts environment.
· Experience in screening, injury surveillance, or health monitoring.
· Additional qualifications in strength & conditioning, Pilates, Vocal Physiotherapy or other movement-based rehabilitation.
