Could you befriend a child in care?
We are currently recruiting Independent Visitors in Bromley and in Kent. We are looking for people who have the time and energy to commit to doing fun activities with a child in care.
You can give your time and energy to building a long-term, rewarding, friendship with a child or young person, to offer them a wealth of positive experiences. Children in care might have faced many challenges in their lives, including a lack of consistent, trusting relationships with adults. As an Independent Visitor, you might be the only constant adult in a child’s life.
Our volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship with an individual child, and the children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun, relationship with someone outside the care system.
Activities will depend on the age and interests of the child and may include a walk in the park, a visit to a museum, bike riding, sports, etc. Visits usually last between one and three hours per month, depending what you agree with them.
This is a one to one commitment and volunteers must be over 18 years of age. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds but particularly encourage applications from men, who are under-represented in the service.
Full training and ongoing support are given, and out-of-pocket expenses paid for travel and activities.
Volunteers will be subject to enhanced police checks.
