Prospero Projects Ltd is looking for an experienced Electrical Building Services Engineer to join our growing MEP consultancy.
We work across a varied portfolio of projects including residential developments, commercial-to-residential conversions, high-end residential projects, retail developments and refurbishment schemes.
We are looking for an engineer with previous building services design experience who can take responsibility for electrical design packages and work closely with our mechanical engineers, architects, clients and other members of the project team.
This is an opportunity to take on genuine responsibility within a smaller, growing consultancy, with involvement across the full design process rather than being limited to one particular area of electrical design.
The Role
You will be involved in the design and delivery of electrical building services across projects from initial concept through to detailed construction information.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Electrical load assessments and maximum demand calculations
- LV electrical distribution design
- Consumer unit, distribution board and panel schedules
- Cable sizing and electrical calculations
- Lighting and emergency lighting design
- Small power layouts
- Fire alarm system design
- Data, telecoms and containment layouts
- External lighting and electrical services
- EV charging infrastructure
- Solar PV and associated electrical infrastructure where applicable
- Life safety electrical supplies
- Electrical schematics and single-line diagrams
- Preparation of electrical specifications and schedules
- Reviewing incoming electrical supplies and preparing load assessments for utility applications
- Coordination of electrical services with mechanical, architectural and structural designs
- Reviewing contractor proposals, technical submissions and product information
- Responding to technical queries during construction
- Attending design team meetings and site visits where required
- Assisting with inspections, snagging and project completion
- Taking ownership of electrical design packages across multiple live projects
About You
We are looking for someone with previous experience in electrical building services design, ideally within an MEP or building services consultancy.
The successful candidate should have:
- Previous experience as an Electrical Building Services Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or similar
- Good knowledge of electrical building services systems
- Good working knowledge of BS 7671 / IET Wiring Regulations
- Experience undertaking electrical calculations and load assessments
- Experience designing LV distribution, lighting, small power and life safety systems
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings
- Good understanding of multidisciplinary MEP coordination
- Ability to develop designs from concept through to detailed construction information
- Ability to manage your own workload and work across multiple projects
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A practical and commercially aware approach to engineering design
Experience with AutoCAD is desirable, with Revit / BIM experience beneficial.
Experience using electrical design software such as Amtech / Trimble ProDesign, DIALux or equivalent would also be advantageous.
Qualifications
Ideally you will hold an appropriate electrical or building services engineering qualification such as:
- HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
However, relevant building services consultancy experience will also be considered alongside formal qualifications.

This is an office-based role at 227A Lower Blandford Road, Broadstone and is not a hybrid or remote-working position.
