BCT is looking for a learning support tutor to join the SEN department and support learners to achieve their full potential.
Essential qualifications
- Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent (Level 2)
- Experience working with Children / Young people at KS4 /KS5 in education or mentoring, preferably in a diverse environment
Essential skills
- The ability to work in a way which promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- Experience of working with Children / Young people with additional needs /SEN learners with knowledge of educational health care plans and assessment strategies for differentiating instruction to meet student needs
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques, safeguarding protocols, and pastoral care
- Adaptability – shift priorities, work independently, and contribute to a positive team environment
- Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and parents
- Proficiency in implementing interventions, accommodations, and assistive technologies to support student learning and development
- Communication: including active listening, empathy, and making complex information accessible
- Promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equity, and respecting the unique strengths and challenges of each student
Desirable skills
- Additional training or certification in special education, behavioural interventions, or related areas
- Experience implementing differentiated instruction and personalised learning approaches
- Familiarity with technology/other specialised resources to enhance student engagement and independence
- Experience working collaboratively with SENCOs, educational psychologists, or support agencies
- Experience of creative practice
Key tasks
- Support designated learner(s) to achieve their personal education plan (PEP) targets
- Support learners' specific behavioural needs and learning barriers, with instruction comprehension and proofreading
- Encourage good attendance, punctuality and independent learning
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and promote self-esteem
- Support tutors to ensure learners have an exciting programme that enables them to progress
- Record academic progress and promote positive behaviour, safety and wellbeing
- Collaborate with the tutor to refine lesson plans to suit additional learner needs
- To plan and deliver personalised learning tailored to learners’ needs
- Collaborate with colleagues and to facilitate holistic support and continuity of care for students
- Effectively liaise with parents, guardians, and external stakeholders to support student progress and well-being

Salary and days of work
- This is a permanent position with multiple roles available, please state your working hours preference on your application
- Up to 35 hours across 5 days a week for 36 weeks per year (term-time)
- Start Date ASAP
- Pro rata of full-time equivalent £27,300 salary (actual salary will depend on hours)
We welcome industry professionals who wish to enter teaching, via the fully funded Taking Teaching Further scheme’s qualification. This includes 6 months of reduced timetable for training with full pay and lesson cover.
