Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as an Appropriate Adult. This vital role involves supporting vulnerable individuals during police interviews, court proceedings, and other legal processes. The successful candidate will act as a reassuring presence, ensuring the rights and welfare of those involved are protected throughout legal procedures. Duties
- Providing emotional support and reassurance to vulnerable individuals during police interviews or court appearances
- Acting as a recognised adult presence to safeguard the rights and welfare of those involved
- Assisting with communication between the individual and legal professionals, ensuring understanding of procedures
- Observing interactions to ensure they are conducted fairly and appropriately
- Documenting observations accurately and maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Collaborating with law enforcement officers, legal representatives, and social workers as required
- Supporting individuals in understanding their rights and the legal process in a respectful manner
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in mentoring, working with children, or teaching is highly desirable
- Compassionate nature with excellent communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate empathy
- Organised with strong attention to detail for accurate record keeping
- Respect for confidentiality and understanding of sensitive situations
- Previous experience in a support or advisory role is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided for successful applicants
