Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as an Appropriate Adult. This vital role involves supporting vulnerable individuals during police interviews, court proceedings, and other legal processes. Duties
- Providing emotional support and reassurance to vulnerable individuals during police interviews or court appearances
- Acting as a recognised adult presence to safeguard the rights and welfare of those involved
- Assisting with communication between the individual and legal professionals, ensuring understanding of procedures
- Observing interactions to ensure they are conducted fairly and appropriately
- Documenting observations accurately and maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Collaborating with law enforcement officers, legal representatives, and social workers as required
- Supporting individuals in understanding their rights and the legal process in a respectful manner
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in mentoring, working with children, or teaching is highly desirable
- Compassionate nature with excellent communication skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate empathy
- Organised with strong attention to detail for accurate record keeping
- Respect for confidentiality and understanding of sensitive situations
- Previous experience in a support or advisory role is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided for successful applicants
