Everest Reinsurance Company’s International Financial Lines Facultative Team is seeking a Senior Financial Lines Facultative Underwriter to be based in the London office. This senior role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to operate independently while managing complex Financial Lines facultative risks. The successful candidate will exercise underwriting authority within delegated parameters, prepare clear and well-supported underwriting reports and referrals, develop strong broker relationships, and contribute to portfolio strategy, profitability, and growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the underwriting and management of an assigned portfolio of complex Financial Lines facultative business, ensuring alignment with profitability, growth, exposure management, and risk appetite objectives.
Exercise independent underwriting judgment and make timely decisions within delegated authority, including clear documentation of pricing rationale, coverage position, terms, conditions, and referral considerations.
Review and analyze complex underwriting submissions, including financial statements, exposure information, loss history, policy wordings, program structures, and broker presentations to determine risk quality and suitability.
Determine appropriate pricing, attachment points, limits, retentions, terms, conditions, exclusions, and coverage structures in accordance with underwriting guidelines, market conditions, and portfolio strategy.
Prepare high-quality underwriting reports, risk summaries, referral notes, portfolio updates, and management reports with clear conclusions and recommendations.
Lead or support referrals, special acceptances, and complex underwriting recommendations to management or relevant approval authorities when risks fall outside delegated authority or require additional review.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and intermediaries, representing the company professionally in the London and international Financial Lines markets.
Identify and develop new business opportunities in line with departmental strategy, underwriting appetite, and long-term profitability objectives.
Monitor portfolio performance, premium development, loss activity, aggregation, renewal outcomes, and market trends to identify opportunities, emerging issues, and corrective actions.
Contribute to business planning, portfolio reviews, strategic initiatives, and management discussions by providing underwriting insights, production updates, and data-driven observations.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Claims, Actuarial, Accounting, Product, Legal, Compliance, and Operations, to support disciplined underwriting and effective portfolio management.
Ensure underwriting files are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal documentation standards, including clear records of analysis, approvals, pricing rationale, and final terms.
Maintain a strong understanding of Financial Lines market developments, legal and regulatory trends, claims activity, and emerging exposures relevant to international facultative business.
Mentor and support less experienced underwriters by sharing technical knowledge, market insight, and underwriting best practices when required.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
Significant experience in Financial Lines underwriting, including D&O, E&O /PI , Crime, Cyber , and related specialty products .
Demonstrated experience analyzing and structuring facultative placements, including negotiation of terms and conditions.
Skills & Competencies
Senior-level Financial Lines underwriting expertise across D&O, E&O/PI, Crime, Cyber, and related specialty products.
Strong analytical capability to assess complex risk profiles, financial information, loss history, exposure trends, policy structures, and portfolio implications.
Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, make well-reasoned underwriting decisions, and manage complex referrals with limited supervision.
Excellent underwriting report-writing skills, including concise analysis, clear conclusions, and practical recommendations for management, referrals, and portfolio reviews.
Strong broker relationship management and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and represent the company credibly in the market.
Commercial mindset with disciplined portfolio management focus, including profitability, aggregation, pricing adequacy, exposure management, and business planning.
Strong organizational skills and operational discipline, ensuring quality, consistency, responsiveness, and compliance with underwriting standards.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use data and reporting tools to support underwriting and portfolio analysis.
