Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and commercially focused Landscape Buyer to manage the procurement of landscape materials, plants, equipment, and sub-contracted services. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing high-quality products and services at competitive prices while maintaining strong supplier relationships, supporting projects to be delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and procure landscape materials including plants, trees, shrubs, aggregates, fencing, irrigation products, and site furnishings.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with nurseries, manufacturers, distributors, and sub-contractors.
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain developments to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare purchase orders and ensure accurate processing through company procurement systems.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and site teams to understand project requirements and delivery timelines.
- Manage supplier performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and service standards are consistently met.
- Track inventory levels where applicable and coordinate stock replenishment.
- Resolve supply issues, delivery delays, and quality concerns efficiently.
- Support tendering and estimating activities by obtaining competitive pricing and supplier commitments.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, contractual requirements, and sustainability objectives.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a buying, procurement, or purchasing role within landscaping, construction, horticulture, or a related industry.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Excellent commercial awareness and cost management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Proficient in Sage.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Desirable
- Knowledge of landscape construction materials and horticultural products.
- Understanding of construction contracts and supply chain management.
- Professional procurement qualifications (e.g., CIPS) or equivalent experience.
