Right Hand to the Founder — Van District (Mansfield)

This is not a PA job in the diary-and-coffee sense. This is a seat next to the founder of a business that’s scaling fast, for someone who wants to grow with it.
Who we are. We’re a van dealership and custom conversion business — 30+ vans in stock at any time, a workshop running flat out, and a rebrand to Van District under way. The founder, Adam, is the engine of the business: constant ideas, constant deals, frequent trips and calls. What he doesn’t have is someone who catches all of it and turns it into action.
The role. You’ll be with Adam daily — long days, early starts, business trips and calls at odd hours. The work is fast-moving, and no two days look the same. Your job is to be the calm in the storm and put structure where there isn’t any:
- Take a half-formed idea or venture from a car journey or phone call, go away and research it, and come back with the numbers, a one-pager or a simple visual that turns it into a decision.
- Push back when something doesn’t stack up — but never with a dead end. “Here’s why that won’t work, and here’s what would” is the whole job in one sentence.
- Track the ventures, deals and follow-ups so nothing gets dropped while the day-to-day swirls.
- Be reachable. This role lives on the phone.
You are:
- Organised to a fault, but relaxed when the plan changes by lunchtime — because it will.
- Quick at research and clear at presenting it: confident with spreadsheets, simple decks and getting to the point.
- Direct enough to challenge the boss, but smart enough to bring an alternative.
- Genuinely hungry. The hours are big, especially in the first few months — if you’re watching the clock, this isn’t for you. If you want to help build something and rise with it, it’s exactly for you.
- A full UK driving licence holder and free to travel.
The honest bit. The first few months are intense — you’ll be alongside Adam for most of the day, most days. The position will begin with a two-month trial period on full pay. In return, you’ll get pay that grows fast with the business, real responsibility from day one and a front-row seat to how a company gets built.
