Job Title: GDASS Health Independent Domestic Violence Advisor

Are you passionate about supporting people affected by domestic abuse and helping them feel safer, heard and empowered?
We`re looking for a Health Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join our GDASS Health Team, providing specialist support to victims of domestic abuse accessing A&E, wards and other departments at Gloucester Royal Hospital.
This is a rewarding role where you`ll work directly with people at what may be one of the most difficult and vulnerable points in their lives. You`ll provide practical and emotional support, help clients understand their options, develop effective safety plans and advocate for their needs.
As a Health IDVA, you will:
- Provide a responsive, high-quality support service to victims of domestic abuse.
- Assess and manage risk, including using the DASH risk assessment.
- Develop client-led support and safety plans, helping people make informed choices about their future.
- Advocate for clients within multi-agency settings, including Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC).
- Work closely with health professionals, social care, police, housing and other agencies to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
- Support clients with legal and other appointments where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records.
- Deliver domestic abuse awareness and training to health professionals, helping staff recognise abuse and respond appropriately.
- Help reduce social isolation by connecting clients with relevant local services, community groups and activities.
- Contribute to a flexible, proactive and supportive team environment.
We`re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Experience of working directly with victims of domestic abuse.
- Experience supporting people with high or complex support needs.
- Knowledge of domestic abuse risk assessment and safety planning.
- An understanding of legal remedies available to victims of domestic abuse and the ability to advocate effectively.
- Experience working in a multi-agency or multi-disciplinary environment.
- The ability to manage a caseload, prioritise competing demands and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, report-writing and record-keeping skills.
- Confidence working with Microsoft Office and relevant IT systems.
- A good standard of general education.
An IDVA qualification is essential, or you must be able to complete the qualification within six months of appointment.
Experience of supporting people affected by honour-based violence, forced marriage or FGM, welfare benefits, court processes or group work would be desirable.
