Our Company
West Riding Personal Financial Solutions Ltd is a fully independent financial advisory firm based in Castleford, managing over £150m in client assets. Established in 2004 as a family business, the firm provides advice across all areas of personal finance, including protection, savings and investments, tax planning, and pensions. The team combines decades of experience, supported by a dedicated administration and paraplanning function. West Riding operates from the centre of Castleford with convenient, company-paid-for parking nearby. The firm is completely independent, directly authorised by the FCA, and has a strong media presence and industry profile, reflecting its emphasis on expertise, integrity, and client-focused service.
The Role
The Paraplanner will be 100% office based in our Castleford office, supporting our financial advisors by preparing suitability reports, recommendations, and supporting documentation for a wide range of personal finance solutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include gathering and analysing client information, conducting product and fund research, and ensuring that advice is compliant with regulatory and internal standards.
The role involves maintaining accurate records, updating client files, and liaising with providers and the internal administration team to progress cases efficiently. The Paraplanner will also assist in reviewing existing client arrangements, modelling financial scenarios, and helping to develop clear, client-friendly documentation.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Castleford. You must have significant experience in pensions and investments, and you will ideally have the full Level 4 Diploma or equivalent. You may be a fully qualified adviser who doesn't like selling and doesn't want to be forever chasing a monthly target. That's fine, because we're advisers, not salespeople. You do absolutely need to be experienced and ready to go though, as a capable paraplanner. We need somebody who can start on the start line, not a mile behind it.
Qualifications
Mortgage qualifications are not relevant to this job as we do not do mortgages. Candidates should possess -
- Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to interpret financial information, compare products, and support advisors with well-founded recommendations.
- Solid written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, accurate reports, letters, and client documentation in a professional tone.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- A good understanding of personal finance areas such as pensions, investments, protection, and tax planning, with the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with advisors, colleagues, and external providers, and to communicate complex information in an accessible way.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., holding Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning or equivalent).
- Previous recent relevant experience in a paraplanning or financial services support role, familiarity with financial planning software, and knowledge of UK regulatory requirements (e.g., FCA rules).
- A good work ethic and a positive friendly attitude. We work hard and we share the benefits. We don't want deadbeats, moaners, gossips, backstabbers, or office-politics players who ruin it for everyone else.
Salary and Benefits
We expect the candidate will merit a salary of at least £40,000 pa in addition to which we pay an amount equal to 9% of basic salary to the pension plan of each colleague’s choice. Full-year bonuses in the last year ranged between 12% and 18% of salary. Holidays and early-finishes equate to a minimum equivalent of 37 days per year, we provide paid-for parking within easy walking distance of the office.
On top of all that we also pay for at least two full evening meals per year (Christmas and our company year-end of 30 June) for colleagues, their partners, and their children, and provide a wide choice of nibbles and drinks for all colleagues for free.
