Do you love fishkeeping, enjoy talking about pets and like the idea of working somewhere where no two days are quite the same?
We’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic person to join the team at HugglePets in Wolverhampton, with a particular passion for aquatics and fishkeeping.
Aquatics will be an important part of the role, so we’d love to find someone who already keeps fish, has worked with aquatics before, or simply has a really strong interest in the hobby.
But this definitely isn’t a job where you’ll spend every shift standing next to the fish tanks.
You’ll be part of the whole HugglePets retail team, helping customers across our reptile department and advising on products, accessories and feeding for dogs, cats, birds, small animals and other pets.
What will you be doing?
A typical day could include:
- Helping a customer choose fish for their aquarium
- Advising someone setting up their first tank
- Carrying out water tests and aquarium maintenance
- Feeding and checking the health of our aquatic livestock
- Keeping our tanks and aquatics displays looking their best
- Helping customers in our reptile department
- Advising customers on food, treats, toys, accessories and other pet products
- Replenishing stock and keeping displays looking great
- Serving customers and helping them find the right products for their pets
- Learning about new products and different areas of pet care

Fancy getting in front of the camera?
We’re growing the amount of social media and educational content we create from the store.
There will be opportunities to get involved with things such as:
- Live social media videos
- Fishkeeping tips and demonstrations
- Educational talks
- New product videos
- In-store content
- Answering common pet care questions on camera
You don’t need to be a social media influencer, but we are looking for someone who is confident talking to people and comfortable being in front of a camera.
If you know your fish and enjoy explaining things in a friendly, easy-to-understand way, even better.
Who are we looking for?
You’ll probably be a great fit if:
- You genuinely love aquatics and fishkeeping
- You keep fish yourself or have previous aquatics experience
- You enjoy talking about pets
- You’re confident speaking to customers
- You’re comfortable appearing in videos and social media content
- You’re keen to learn about reptiles and other areas of pet care
- You’re happy helping customers throughout the whole store
- You care about animal welfare
- You’re friendly, reliable and willing to get stuck in
- You enjoy being part of a team
Previous retail or pet shop experience would be great, but it isn’t everything.
We’d much rather find someone with genuine enthusiasm, personality and a real interest in aquatics who wants to learn and become part of the HugglePets team.

We operate our retail store and online business, as well as developing our own ranges of pet products which are supplied to retailers across the UK.
We’re also incredibly proud of HugglePets in the Community, our not-for-profit organisation which uses animals and animal-assisted activities to support children, young people and adults within our local community.

Hours
This is a part-time role.
Some flexibility will be required around working days, including some weekend work, as weekends are an important part of life in retail.
