Due to the continued growth and expansion of our business we are currently looking to recruit a number of experienced Road Surfacing Operatives:
Job Role (typical duties will include):
RSOs are responsible for the surfacing, resurfacing & improvement of public & privately owned highway network, covering all road types from motorways to residential streets, working most of the time outside with typical duties including:
· The operation of a wide range of specialist plant machinery bitumen sprayers & compacting rollers.
· The removal of old/existing surfaces using mechanical breakup processes.
· The visual inspection & preparation of the underlying surface to receive new surfacing material.
· The resurfacing of the prepared area using a range of road surfacing machinery.
· The alignment and then compaction of the new surface.
RSOs will work as part of a team (known as a gang) of between 6 and 10 people directed by a supervisor.
RSOs will perform multiple roles within the gang including roller driver, rake hand, etc.
RSOs will have a safety-first attitude, learning how to carry out works without risk to themselves & others.
They must be adaptable, prepared for outdoor working to a variety of shift patterns.
Knowledge/Education/Skills (the following aspects will be required):
· Lay & compact road surfaces using all forms of asphalt & ancillary products, such as bond coat & bituminous jointing compounds, in accordance with relevant specifications & industry best practice.
· How to work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, National Highway Sector Schemes, Industry Codes of Practice, Roads & Street Works Act & other guidance relevant to the occupation.
· Risk assessments, method statements & other official documents required to undertake work.
· Work equipment such as disc cutters, breakers, compactor plates, hand tools (& their correct use).
· Drawings, plans & specifications to identify what works are required & how to apply them.
· Traffic management systems & how to work safely within them.
· Prepare & operate work equipment such as disc cutters, breakers & compactor plates.
· Carry out the excavation (planing) & reinstatement of the highway, install street ironworks.
· Identify, locate & excavate around underground services to avoid strikes and loss of service.
· Apply appropriate health, safety, environmental & ecological procedures when working on the roads.
· Plan, undertake and inspect work safely, efficiently, and productively.
· Work safely within temporary traffic management (utilising safety zones, traffic lights, signage, cones & barriers) as required by legislation & industry standards to protect all parties whilst works are undertaken.
· Work effectively within a team environment, cooperating & supporting team members when required.
Training (the following aspects will be required):
· CPCS/NPORS level for operating machinery.
· CAT & Genny.
· Appropriate level of CSCS card.
· Respiratory Face Fit Test (FFT).
· Manual Handling.
· Roads & Street Works.
· Abrasive Wheels.
· Vehicle Marshall/Banksman.
