Hours: Part-Time 4 days (6 days variable rota Mon to Sun)
Contract: Part-time 30 hours per week
Salary: £22,292 p.a. (based on £27,865 FTE)

Selling design-led inspirational gifts, cards and home interior items, our award winning gift shop number twenty is now in its 19th year in the heart of Berkhamsted, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team in this unique shop. Often sourcing from local artists, designers and brands and commissioning exclusive ranges, the shop continues to stock the highest quality products.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Actively drive sales to maximise shop profitability and achieve annual budget
- Provide line management of deputy and bank team and support for volunteers
- Deliver excellence in customer service at all times and actively respond and listen to customers and volunteers to demonstrate time and care
- Champion sustainability wherever possible across the shop operation
- Deliver and maintain a high standard of presentation of merchandise
- Support the buyer and visual merchandising manager to select appropriate product ranges
- Maintain the integrity of the number twenty brand
- Proactively enhance customer experience through the implementation of regular shop events and promotions at key trading periods
- Proactive use of social media to promote the shop and engage with the local community
- Oversee all operational matters relating to successful running of shopManage and operate agreed stock rotation system
- Strong commercial awareness – ability to analyse KPIs and P&Ls to drive sales forward
- Follow agreed till, cashing up and banking procedures
- Provide support to plan and implement annual stocktake
- Provide emergency cover for the shop as required
- Support Head of Shops in recruitment and induction of new employees and volunteers
- Support the Hospice Fundraising and Communications teams to promote key events in the shop and the organisation as a whole
- Act as an ambassador for The Hospice and proactively build links within the local community.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Knowledge - A passion for retail and a ‘people person’
- Good general standard of education
- Experienced retail manager (min 3 years) with demonstrable experience of commercial success and accountability – a track record of increasing and sustaining sales growth
- Line management experience
- Visible leadership skills – can motivate others to achieve goals, communicate and monitor objectives, lead by example and be a team player
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills – empathetic and patient
- Ability to lead a team in order to establish the highest standards of customer service and shop presentation
- Strong commercial awareness – ability to analyse KPIs and P&Ls to drive sales forward
- Strong operational and organisational skills
- Good numeracy - confident working with figures and reports
- Confident IT user
- Ability to work under pressure and multi task in a busy and fast moving environment
- Physical strength and pace to cope with regular manual lifting and handling
- Flexibility
- Driver with own transport
