Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Despatch Team Leader to join our Operations team.
This is a hands-on role, supporting the Despatch Manager with the day-to-day running of the department while leading and supporting the Despatch team. You’ll play an important part in ensuring goods are received, prepared and despatched efficiently, safely and to the required quality standards.
We’re looking for someone who is organised, approachable and confident leading a team in a busy working environment.
As Despatch Team Leader, you will help coordinate the workload of the department, support team members and ensure the smooth flow of work through Despatch.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading by example and supporting the day-to-day performance of the Despatch team
- Organising and distributing workloads effectively across the team
- Ensuring team members understand company expectations, priorities and objectives
- Encouraging initiative and independent thinking within the team
- Supporting a positive working environment and good team morale
- Monitoring workloads and identifying potential bottlenecks or resourcing requirements
- Monitoring the quality of work produced within the department
- Keeping department job boards and information up to date
- Attending and contributing to production meetings
- Communicating professionally with colleagues and other stakeholders across the business
- Identifying and escalating any health and safety concerns
- Monitoring departmental overtime and helping to keep this to a minimum
Goods In, Stock & Logistics
You will also take responsibility for a number of key operational activities, including:
- Managing the Goods In process, including receiving and checking deliveries
- Ensuring relevant colleagues are notified promptly when goods arrive
- Keeping the Goods In area clean, tidy and organised
- Monitoring and maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Completing weekly vehicle checks and ensuring the required paperwork is maintained for audit purposes
- Providing cover for Logistics when required
- Providing cover for the Despatch Manager during periods of absence
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience within despatch, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing or a similar operational environment
- Has experience leading, supervising or supporting a team
- Is confident organising workloads and prioritising tasks
- Has a practical, hands-on approach and is happy to get involved when needed
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Has good attention to detail and a strong focus on quality
- Understands the importance of health and safety within an operational environment
- Is reliable, organised and able to remain calm when priorities change
- Can identify problems and take a proactive approach to resolving them
- Works well with colleagues across different departments
