The Role
We are seeking professional, adaptable, and safety-conscious Casual HGV Class 1 (C+E) Drivers to join our Transport Department. This is a flexible, casual role designed to support our product distribution and supply chain workflows during peak periods, holidays, and seasonal surges.
You will primarily be responsible for delivering fresh produce to major retail Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as managing collections from our local supplier network.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Operate HGV Class 1 vehicles safely, in strict compliance with road traffic legislation, EU/UK Drivers’ Hours Regulations, and tachograph rules.
- Complete meticulous daily pre-trip vehicle walkaround checks and accurately record any defects via our digital reporting systems.
- Ensure loads are loaded, strapped, and secured in line with load safety standards before transit.
- Adhere to company food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures when handling fresh produce.
- Keep strict compliance with the company safety rules, including our zero-tolerance policy on using personal mobile phones while driving.
Operational Excellence
- Take full responsibility for the vehicle, load, and company equipment (including telematics, fuel cards, and load handling tools) during your duty.
- Maintain clean vehicle interiors and practice efficient fuel management.
- Complete and return all delivery notes, tacho charts, and paperwork to the Transport Office at the end of each shift.
- Work variable rota shifts flexibly, including early starts, weekends, and bank holidays as required by the business.
Communication & Teamwork
- Report any accidents, near-misses, delays, or route diversions immediately to the Transport Office.
- Represent Gilfresh Produce professionally when interacting with customer site staff and suppliers.
Requirements
- A valid UK HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence.
- An active Driver CPC (Driver Qualification Card) and Digital Tachograph card.
- Clean driving record (maximum of 6 active penalty points, no major convictions).
- Ideally, a minimum of 1 year of commercial Class 1 driving experience.
- For commercial fleet insurance purposes, candidates must be at least 25 years old.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
- Strong communication skills and a dependable, self-motivated work ethic.
