Chris Wright Baildon Ltd is a well-established specialist transport and machinery movement company based in Baildon, West Yorkshire.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join our team.
This is specialist transport work – not general haulage.
The role involves transporting plant, machinery, generators, industrial equipment and abnormal loads throughout the UK using articulated vehicles and specialist trailers.
The Role
- Operating articulated vehicles with flat, step-frame, stepdeck and specialist trailers
- Transporting plant, machinery, generators and industrial equipment throughout the UK
- Carrying out abnormal and STGO movements where required
- Loading, securing and checking machinery and equipment before transport
- Using chains, straps and other load-restraint equipment correctly and safely
- Working alongside escort vehicles, planners, customers and site teams
- Carrying out daily vehicle checks and completing all necessary documentation
- Representing the company professionally when dealing with customers and sites
The work is varied and nationwide and will involve nights out. Some weekend work may occasionally be required depending on the job.

What We’re Looking For
You will need:
- Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence
- Driver CPC
- Digital tachograph card
- Good understanding of load security and safe working practices
- Confidence securing plant and machinery using chains and straps
- Professional attitude and good communication skills
- Flexibility for nationwide work and nights out
Previous experience transporting plant, machinery, abnormal loads or heavy haulage would be preferred.
Experience with step-frame trailers, stepdecks, low loaders, extendable trailers or STGO movements would be particularly beneficial.
However, we would also consider an experienced Class 1 driver with the right attitude and a genuine interest in progressing into specialist transport, with training provided where appropriate.
