Position Overview
The Senior Geophysicist position is a hybrid role combining office-based project planning and reporting with offshore fieldwork, leading vessel-based geophysical survey operations worldwide. The role involves office project preparation and offshore geophysical and Party Chief duties to achieve high-quality data acquisition and processing, to deliver accurate survey deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong understanding of geophysical survey systems and recommend appropriate equipment for project requirements.

Understand project Scope of Work (SoW), specifications, and contractual requirements prior to mobilization.

Support project planning and data acquisition preparation.

Prepare and review project HSEQ documentation, method statements, and procedures.

Act as Party Chief onboard inshore survey vessels undertaking MBES and geophysical surveys (SSS, Mag, SBP, USBL).

Lead mobilization, calibration, and integration of survey and positioning systems.

Operate and troubleshoot online acquisition software and associated survey systems.

Plan and manage daily offshore operations, timescales, and project communications.

Lead onsite meetings to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Make informed operational decisions (e.g. weather downtime) to optimize vessel productivity.

Monitor geophysical data quality in real time, perform QA/QC, and identify degradation or unusable data.

Troubleshoot equipment and software issues, liaising with developers and manufacturers where required.

Maintain accurate project documentation, including logs and toolbox talks, and proactively report issues to management.

Process, interpret, and present geophysical data using industry-standard software.

Produce and review high-quality survey reports and client deliverables in line with project schedules.

Contribute to continuous improvement of survey methodologies while ensuring compliance with HSEQ standards.
Qualifications
- A full understanding of geophysical survey systems, including Edgetech and Klein Side Scan Sonars, Geometrics G882 Magnetometers / Gradiometers and Innomar Parametric Echosounders.

Sound knowledge of offshore geophysical survey data and industry software, including Chesapeake SonarWiz, Oasis Montaj and GIS.

Experience in marine geophysical survey, ideally in the coastal zone.

A higher education degree in a geophysical or technically related subject.

Possession of a full, valid UK driving license.

Valid offshore medical and sea survival certification.

Willing to perform site data acquisition involving time away from home on a regular basis.
