Role Purpose:
The Workshop Service Technician is responsible for carrying out the inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of powered access equipment within our workshop, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all Health & Safety legislation, company policies and safe systems of work.

- Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, inspections and repairs on a wide range of powered access equipment, including:
- Scissor lifts
- Boom lifts
- Spider lifts
- Low level access equipment
- Vehicle-mounted access platforms (truck and van mounted MEWPs)
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and electronic faults.
- Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical and mechanical schematics to accurately diagnose and rectify faults.
- Complete LOLER-related remedial repairs where required.
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), refurbishment work and major repairs.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company quality standards.
- Accurately complete job documentation using the company's service management system.
- Support and mentor less experienced workshop technicians, promoting safe working practices and high-quality workmanship.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Ensure all tools, equipment and workshop facilities are maintained in good condition.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support workshop operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience repairing and servicing powered access equipment, plant machinery or similar mobile equipment.
- Experience working on vehicle-mounted access platforms (truck-mounted and van-mounted MEWPs).
- Good understanding of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently.
- Experience reading electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Good problem solving and fault finding skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively in a busy workshop environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Manufacturer product training (e.g. JLG, Palfinger, Hinowa, Ruthmann, Multitel, CTE, Time Manufacturing, Versalift or similar).
- IPAF CAP qualification.
- LOLER inspection experience.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Previous field service experience.
Working Conditions
Hours: 8.00am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (30-minute unpaid lunch break)
The successful candidate should be able to:
- Work safely in a busy workshop environment.
- Stand, bend, kneel and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Lift and move components and equipment in accordance with manual handling guidelines.
- Work at height where appropriate using suitable access equipment and fall protection.
- Occasionally work outdoors or travel to customer sites when required.
- Work flexibly to support business and customer requirements.
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
