To train as a registered Pharmacy Technician by completing an integrated 24-month Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship program. The post holder will work under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to develop clinical skills, manage stock, and safely dispense medicines while meeting the registration requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Key Responsibilities:
Retail & Over-the-Counter (OTC) Patient Care
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients at the counter, hand out completed prescriptions, process payments, and manage prescription collection queues.
- Healthcare Advice: Provide basic advice on minor ailments (e.g., coughs, colds) and over-the-counter product selection, safely escalating complex queries to the Pharmacist.
- Pharmacy Services: Assist the pharmacist in promoting public health campaigns and supporting community services like flu vaccinations, blood pressure checks, and smoking cessation.
Dispensing & Medicines Support
- Prescription Assembly: Safely assemble, label, and dispense acute and repeat prescriptions under supervision, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS): Assist in preparing, filling, and checking weekly medication blister packs for vulnerable patients and local care homes.
- Electronic Prescription Service (EPS): Use the pharmacy PMR system to download, process, and track electronic prescriptions from local GP surgeries.
Stock & Retail Operations
- Wholesaler Ordering: Monitor stock levels daily, place orders with pharmaceutical wholesalers, and check off deliveries against invoices.
- Inventory Control: Maintain excellent stock rotation, perform routine expiry date checks, and process drug recalls or pharmaceutical waste disposal. [1]
- Merchandising: Keep retail shelves clean, correctly priced, well-stocked, and organized to optimize the patient experience.
Training & Compliance
- Academic Progression: Complete the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians during designated, paid off-the-job study hours.
- Professionalism: Maintain patient confidentiality, uphold data protection laws (GDPR), and strictly adhere to health, safety, and infection control standards.

Essential Qualifications & Eligibility
- Qualifications: 4 or 5 GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent), strictly including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject.
- Customer Focus: A warm, empathetic, and professional manner when dealing with the public.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent concentration skills to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced retail health environment.
- Resilience: Ability to balance the demands of full-time pharmacy work with independent academic study.
