We are a small, independent micro-pub in West Malling with a reputation for two things: the pristine quality of our real ale and exceptional customer service. Weekdays are steady and conversational, while Fridays and Saturdays are fast-paced and busy.
The Role & What We Are Looking For:
We are looking for a grounded, reliable, and perceptive Shift Supervisor to run shifts and oversee day-to-day operations. This role is less about formal paperwork and much more about life experience, a cool head, and strong interpersonal skills. We need someone who is forward thinking and naturally capable of looking at the bigger picture while managing multiple moving parts at once.

We pride ourselves on being independent, which means we can be incredibly flexible with our rota. We are looking for long-term consistency, but we can easily adapt the hours to suit your personal situation and personality type. For example:
- The Extra Shift: Perhaps you already have a main career but want one shift a week or a shift every other week to keep you active, social, and connected to the hospitality vibe.
- The Lifestyle Balance: Maybe you are looking for 2 to 3 regular shifts a week to balance around other commitments or partial retirement.
- The Core Regular: You love the hospitality atmosphere and want multiple shifts a week to become a core face behind our bar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perceptive Leadership: Running shifts, monitoring the floor, and guiding a youthful, friendly front-of-house team.
- Operational Oversight: Taking full ownership of cashing up, bookings, strict stock/beer rotation, and more.
- Quality Control: Ensuring our high standards of hospitality, real ale quality, and safety regulations are consistently met.
- Community Engagement: Being a confident, welcoming presence who can effortlessly build rapport with our regular clientele.
Who You Are:
- Experienced or Grounded: You have a solid background in customer service, hospitality, or simply possess the life experience needed to handle a busy environment with confidence. We are looking for someone that has ideally worked in a supervisory role before.
- The Bigger Picture Thinker: You have your head screwed on. You notice the small details (a table that needs clearing, a guest waiting to be served) while keeping the overall shift running smoothly.
- Keen to Learn: Real ale is our pride and joy. You don’t need to be an expert on day one, but you must take pride in serving a great pint and be eager to learn the trade from us.
Recruitment Timeline: We are looking for long-term consistency, not temporary summer staff. Because we are currently in the height of our busy summer season, our onboarding process is intentionally gradual and selective. If you are looking for an immediate start or a standard 9-to-5 job to begin next week, this role won't be the right fit. We take our time with interviews, trials, and thorough training to introduce new team members slowly and properly.
