Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Steel Fixer to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing and securing steel reinforcement bars in various construction projects, ensuring structural integrity and safety. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in construction trades to contribute to high-quality building works across commercial and industrial sites. The position is paid and requires a commitment to safety, precision, and efficiency on site.
Duties
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine placement of steel reinforcement.
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel bars using hand tools, power tools, or specialised machinery.
- Secure steel reinforcement using tying wire, welding, or mechanical fasteners in accordance with project plans.
- Assist with the positioning of reinforcement cages and supports within formwork structures.
- Ensure all steel fixing activities comply with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other trades such as carpenters, masons, and roofers to facilitate smooth workflow.
- Maintain a clean work environment by organising tools and materials efficiently.
- Perform routine inspections of installed reinforcement for accuracy and quality control.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in welding techniques is highly desirable.
- Skilled in using hand tools (e.g., pliers, hammers), power tools (e.g., angle grinders), and specialised fixing equipment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to reinforcing steel installation processes.
- Experience with carpentry, roofing, masonry, or heavy lifting is advantageous.
- Valid driving licence for commercial driving is preferred but not essential.
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret engineering specifications accurately.
- Physical fitness to perform heavy lifting and work at heights if required.
