We are currently seeking experienced Orthopaedic Scrub Nurses with expertise in Major Orthopaedics to join our high-performing orthopaedic surgical team. This role is ideal for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced theatre environment and have a passion for delivering exceptional care in major hip and knee arthroplasty procedures.
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience in major orthopaedic surgeries, specifically hip and knee joint replacements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex surgical cases and support high-volume arthroplasty lists.
- Familiarity with orthopaedic instrumentation and implant systems used in joint replacement procedures.
Main Duties of the Job
- Deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality preoperative care across both scrub and anaesthetic roles.
- Support high-volume orthopaedic lists, with a minimum of 5 cases per day, scaling up to 7-8 cases.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment for major joint replacement surgeries.
- Assist anaesthetists in patient preparation, monitoring, and recovery phases.
- Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with clinical governance and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre teams to optimise patient outcomes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold best practices in surgical nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scrub for elective orthopaedic procedures including THR, TKR, and day-case surgery.
- Prepare instruments, implants, and consumables for a wide range of procedures.
- Support multiple consultants and lists in a high-throughput environment.
- Maintain high standards of asepsis, safety, and surgical efficiency.
- Collaborate with the surgical, anaesthetic, and recovery teams to reduce turnaround time.
- Contribute to pre- and post-op safety checks and instrument tracking.
Qualifications & Experience:
- NMC or HCPC registration.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a scrub practitioner in orthopaedics.
Person Specification: Scrub Nurse / Practitioner
Essential:
- NMC/HCPC registration with at least 2 years scrub experience in ortho.
- Familiar with high-volume lists and orthopaedic instrumentation (THR, TKR, day-case procedures, 24 hour discharge).
- Ability to scrub across multiple consultants/lists.
- Ability to use (Hips) Corail Pinnacle, Polar, Tri lock (Knees) Attune, Triathlon, Persona.
- High attention to aseptic technique and safety standards.
Desirable:
- Experience in fast-track / enhanced recovery orthopaedics.
- Active involvement in reducing turnaround times
